My hubby and daughter were already out in Oklahoma for summer vacation in the RV on his mother's property. I flew into Dallas, and they picked me up in the Thor. We headedstraight to Mather Campground on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon.
Mather Campground does NOT have any RV hookups, so you are basically self-reliant. The campground rules also restrict the use of generators between 7am to 9am in the morning and 7pm to 9pm at night. The restrictions weren't a problem to us since we would get up early, get our coffee, and get on the road. For transportation, we towed our motorcycles on a trailer. The ride along the rim on the cycles was breathtaking. The free bus line was also an alternative source of transportation that we frequently used. The bus would pick up right from Mather Campground and had stops along the rim and at Grand Canyon Village.
I would recommend booking with Grand Canyon Scenic tours with Grand Canyon Airlines. It is an exciting full day tour by air, water, and land. They provide a small breakfast, snacks, and a lunch during the tour. We flew in a small plane over the Grand Canyon and Lake Powell, and then took a 4-wheel drive tour truck to Antelope Canyon, and then lastly, a soft water rafting adventure down the Colorado. During the water rafting ride, the tour guide made stops along the banks and let us get out to view hieroglyphics and enjoy the brisk water. I was absolutely shocked at how freezing cold the water was for the month of July. It is a long day so be well rested.
The beauty of the Grand Canyon is immeasurable. I have been blessed to be able to visit there three times so far in my lifetime and am looking forward to another trip in the near future.
