KOA Fort McCoy is located in the Ocala National Forest, north of Silver Springs State Park. The campground is geared toward ATV enthusiasts who can use the trails through the Ocala National Forest. In order to ride, permits, driver license ids, and proof of ownership (registrations/titles) are required. For children under 16, certification proof of an online course is also required.

The trails in some areas were pretty tight with bad blindspots and no passing from oncoming traffic. While we were there, my husband experienced a head-on collision with an OHV going fast from the other direction. He was thrown from the ATV, but luckily, he did not sustain any serious injuries, only a broken fender and headlight.

The campground itself is clean. They are trying to sell lots for permanent residency. Our sites were on the grassy outskirts by the lakeview which provided privacy but also provide ants, lots of ants! They were climbing up RV and getting access to interior through the slideouts. We had to set off a bug bomb when we got home. Otherwise, the Olympic size pool was enjoyable, clean, and a cozy temperature.

Due to the dangers of the tight trails, we will probably not be visiting Fort McCoy again.
